Joe's School Eval.

So I went to Joe's doctor apt. this morning only to find out that they scheduled us in the wrong office so it had to be moved to tomorrow morning at 10. That's okay because I already had a packed schedule. I had a policy council meeting at 10 then an eval with Joe's teacher, then an enrollment appointment to get Julianna in school for next year.

I was nervous about Joe's evaluation. As most of you know Joe has Asperger's Syndrome. Now, Asperger's is not an excuse or free pass. Yes, he will have trouble in some areas but he will just have to work harder than the rest of the kids. I was expecting him to be somewhere in the bottom 25% of his class. I was pleasantly surprised when his teacher said he is in the TOP 25%!!! That's HUGE for Joe! Here is a list of some of his accomplishments...

*Knows how to write his name
*Know his name by sight
*Knows 6 letters by sight (the goal is to know 10 going into kindergarten next year)
*Can sing the alphabet
*Knows Author, Illustrator and parts of a book
*Can draw a picture to reflect a story that was read
*Can give daily news
*Knows patterns
*Can count to 25

I knew going into the eval. he could do most of this I just didn't know what was "normal" at his age. Apparently, he is right on track, even AHEAD of some kids! I am so proud of him! The teacher said that Joe is really funny! He apparently is always cracking jokes in class! And his teacher said that she has never seen a more proud big brother! He is always talking about "his girls" (aka. his sisters)! His teacher also said he is always looking out for the other little girls in class. How sweet is that?
